Anastasia Pollard receives the Ondaatje Prize for Portraiture (2009) at the Royal Society of Portrait Painters.

Nov 2009

Text of review from the London Atelier of Representational Art review (see link below):

Building on 2008’s double prize-winning success of the LARA sculpture teacher Valentina Zlatarova, in June it was announced by The Royal Society of Portrait Painters that LARA teacher Anastasia Pollard was the 2009 winner of the Ondaatje Prize for Portraiture.

Founded in 1991 by the Sri-Lankan born publisher, author, adventurer, businessman, multi-millionaire and philanthropist Sir Christopher Ondaatje, the annual award is made by a panel of judges to the painter of the most distinguished painting shown at the Exhibition of The Royal Society of Portrait Painters held at the Mall Galleries, London, SW1.

"The Ondaatje Prize for Portraiture is one of the most illustrious awards made in the art world today. The winner receives a cash prize of £10,000 and the Society’s Gold Medal. - The award is no mean feat on Anastasia’s part, when one considers the experience and quality of the artistic talent she was competing against.

Truth being stranger than fiction, the winning oil is titled Valentina and is a portrait of her LARA colleague, Valentina Zlatarova.  Anastasia will hold her second solo exhibition with Mumford Fine Art, Soho in November/December later this year."
